Global Environmental History, 1450-1750
This course introduces students to global and environmental history by tracing material extraction, commodity creation, systems of labor, and the travel of pathogens, plants, ideas, and people in the Early Modern world. It questions how we define globalization in terms of human activity and the environment, and explores the roles of history and social sciences in the 2020s, marked by climate change, pandemic, carbon dependency, and ecocide.
